B. Your Application (2 pages)
1) Details of the project/program you require funding for including background and purpose: Background: 80% of Cambodian people live in rural areas in extremely basic conditions. Only 35% of Cambodian people have access to a healthy clean water system. Why do the villagers need clean water systems:
Purposes: Our aim is to provide basic healthy systems to poor communities to guarantee their health and let them improve their living conditions. The installation of hand water pumps is vital in order to help reduce disease and to improve villagers every day life. When these basic needs are satisfied we will be able to start developing other skills in order to ensure the self sustainability of these rural areas. Project: Install 100 water pumps in the Sophy and Sreth villages. These pumps will enable 2.100 people to have a clean water system. This represents an increase of 600%. Now, only 8% of our community has clean water. With the upcoming 100 water pumps, 53% of the community would have easy access to clean water.
2) Objectives and Goals of the project/program including, if applicable, information on: Objectives: Give support to rural Cambodian areas (Sophy and Sreth) to ensure health and development that let them achieve a self sustainable community in the long term. Goals: Install 100 water pumps within 2010. Teach the people in the community how to purify the water in 2 training sessions. Promote basic health awareness and understanding of bad impact of dirty water and lack of hygiene. Implementation plan: Due to our previous experience in building water pumps. The steps to be taken are the following: 1. Look for location where water pumps can be built and search for the neediest families in the community (1 month for 100 pumps) 2. Contract the water pump builders 3. Evaluate the viability of building a water pump in the selected areas 4. Buying the material: pump tap, water pipes, water filters,... 5. Construction process: (3 days/water pump) - Hole drilling: from 20 to 25 meter deep - Plastic tube insertion - Sawing the tube to make the tiny hole drain and filter the water - Platform building using cement, sand and rocks - Build the water pump absorber device 6. Pumping the dirty water (3days) and testing the quality of the clean water (1 week) Timing: to be able to build 100 water pumps we will need a minimum one year Cost: 145$/pump + 30$/plaque* = 175$ * The plaque is a sign where you can put a personal or institutional note from the donor. This is up to the donor. Staff support needed: In order to ensure the quality of the pumps to be long lasting we should contract with a specialized pump builder. After doing some research of possible providers, we have found that the cheapest and best option is to employ the pump builders of the Sophy village. This would be the best quality/price relationship we can meet. 5 people are required to build every pump. There are no partners in this project Beneficiaries: At least 300 families from the Sophy and Sreth villages will benefit from these 100 pumps.
3) Grant amount requested in USD: 17.500$ with plaques or 14.500 without plaques The donation would be likely to be received by a transfer in USD.
4) Are donations to your organization locally tax deductible? If yes, what documents do you have to show your tax status? (Please attach them with this application) Tax is not applicable for NGOs in
5) Breakdown of grant including all relevant items of expenditure: 130$ pump construction + approx 10% (transport, water tests and administration*)+ 30$plaque= 175$ * When there is money left from the administration that has not been directly used in the pump construction it will be invested in the free English lessons for the children in the village
6) Annual budget of your organization: in 2009 Overall budget 12.289$ = 6.689$ English class budget 2009 + 5.600$ Water pumps

10) Will this project go ahead if your application is not successful? We will fail to meet our goals and we will build fewer water pumps
11) If your application receives only a partial donation, how will you raise the remaining funds? We are constantly looking for more and new donors. We are in contact with local guides and tour operators that work for tourism. However, we know that individual funding will not cover for our needs and we are working hard to find bigger donors. Note that a lot more information could be sent to you. We have pictures of the village, the school and the water pumps that have been already built.
